Interview With Milan, Excursion Guide In Punta Cana

Milan Dragojlovic joined Dressel Divers’ staff almost 2 years ago, but he has been part of the Dressel Family for a longer time. First, he did a 6 months internship and afterwards, he did the IDC in Punta Cana with Cristian Maffione. Nowadays, he works as excursion guide in the same location.

We went to the beautiful Dominican Republic to have a chat with him and learn more about his beginnings in scuba diving, his other hobbies and his most interesting tips.

At what age did you start diving?
I started diving around 4 years ago, when I was 27.

What is the most incredible dive you ever did?
Every dive is different and incredible but, for me, the best dives are the wreck dives. One that I will definitely always remember is a fun dive on St.George wreck with my girlfriend, Chloe. We were alone on the wreck. Visibility was great, a lot of sealife, and a lot of nice memories.

At what point you realized you wanted to be a Dive instructor/Divemaster?
Three years ago, while I was a rescue diver, I was involved in the organization of a  Scuba diving camp in Greece. There I had a chance to help instructors and Divemasters , see their job first hand. Then, I realized I can turn my new discovered passion into profession.

Where did you do your instructor course?
I did my IDC in Dressel Divers Punta Cana, with the Course Director Cristian Maffione, after finishing the 6 months Internship in the same dive center.

What qualities do you think a dive instructor needs to be successful?
Good theory knowledge, diving skills, organization skills and good logical thinking. As well as good Marketing and selling skills.

What is the best advice you ever gave to your students?
Keep diving and keep learning.

What is your most memorable moment with students?
Doing a Discovery Scuba Diving with my mother, here in the Dominican Republic.

Why would you recommend Dressel Divers to new students?
Because they can do a big variety of different level courses following PADI standards in total. In addition, high safety standards with quality gear and trained staff that have a great time while doing that.

Which Dressel Divers dive center would you like to go if opportunity arises?
Definitely, one of the dive centers in Mexico.

What features and opportunities made you chose to work with this company in particular?
During my Internship I got to know the company very well and see that it is a well organized association. You have a lot of opportunities to gain experience teaching a lot of courses and growing as a Dive Instructor in a professional way.

What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to make a living with scuba diving?
It is a hard work job that will not get you rich, but you get to do what you love for work, living in paradise surrounded by great people which is what makes a living after all.

What are your other hobbies?
Sports in general, photography, sailing…

What do you do on your day off in Punta Cana?
Mostly resting, but I find time to explore the country as well.
