Interview with Renardo, Boat Captain at Dressel Divers Montego Bay

Renardo has been working at Dressel Divers Montego Bay for 3 years. He started as a tank room worker but little by little he trained and learned to end up working as a boat captain.

Today we went to Jamaica to have a chat with him. He told us about his experience working in our dive center, his best anecdotes with clients or the best tips to be a great captain like him.

  1. Why did you choose this job?
    Because I wanted the experience of working on the water.
  2. How long have you been working for Dressel Divers?
    I’ve been working for this company for three years.
  3. What are your main responsibilities/tasks?
    My job here is the responsibility of the captain.
  4. What qualities do you think a person with your job needs to be successful?
    So, with my job qualities, you need to be hardworking and have the willingness to learn as you go on.
  5. What do you like most about your job?
    The thing I like the most about this job is that everyone gets the opportunity to level up in this company so once just hired to just a simple task, you can upgrade.
  6. Do you have any noteworthy mannerisms or rituals in your work?
    Yes, so we like greeting the guests in a Jamaican way.
  7. What accomplishment are you most proud of working for Dressel Divers?
    So, I started out as a tank room worker and then to the beach, and now as a captain and now I’ve just finished my Open Water Course and I’m about to finish my Advanced Diving Course.

  2. What features and opportunities made you choose to work with this company in particular?
    The fact that I can become a parasail captain and dive.
  3. What is your most memorable moment here in Dressel Divers?
    So, my most memorable moment in this company is when we were trying to save a boat from sinking due to bad weather and we tied a rope to a kayak to pull it in case it was impossible to get back.
  4. Why would you recommend Dressel Divers to other captains looking for a job?
    Because it is a company that provides opportunities so, even if you are not experienced in the field, they will provide the necessary training exercises for you to be ready.
  5. What has been the greatest compliment you have received from a client?
    Thank you for saving my life.
  6. What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to take up a job as a captain, to be as good as you are?
    So, to be as good as I am you have to be determined and willing to learn from others and you have to dedicate yourself to wanting to know all about the waters and about all activities provided by your work facilities.
  7. What are your other hobbies? What do you do on your days off here in Montego Bay?
    On my off days, I come to work sometimes to do my training dives.
  8. Do you also dive and snorkel?
    Yes, I do both diving and snorkeling.
