Interview With Eva: Dive Boss at Dressel Divers Cozumel

dive instructor in Cozumel - Eva (main)

Eva joined the Dressel Divers family in 2017. She started by doing our Internship to become a PADI Dive Instructor. Everything went smoothly and currently, she is a great dive instructor at our dive center in Cozumel, where she is happy teaching people to dive and spending her free time discovering the marine life of the north of the island.

We recently had a little talk with her about her beginnings in scuba diving and she also told us interesting anecdotes and tips. Discover more about Eva in this interview.

1. At what age did you start diving?

I was 30 years old when I was finally able to do my open water course.

2. What is the most incredible dive you ever did?

The most incredible dive I can remember was during a liveaboard in the Similan Islands. We are all looking at a huge moray eel and then suddenly we looked up and we had a huge Manta ray circling above our heads!

3. At what point did you realize you wanted to be a Dive Instructor?

Believe it or not I knew I wanted to be an Instructor on my second open water pool session! I hadn’t even been in open water yet.

4. Where did you do your Instructor Course?

I wanted to do my Instructor course with the best so I came to Dressel Divers.

5. What qualities do you think a Dive Instructor needs to be successful?

Patience and flexibility.

6. What is the best advice you ever gave to your students?

Breathe slowly, exhale, and go easy on yourself.

7. What is your most memorable moment with students?

I have a lot of great memories with students but one that always sticks out was a referral course where the student was terrified of open water her first time…she ended up not only finishing her open water course but also did her advanced she loved it so much!

8. Why would you recommend Dressel Divers to new students?

Dressel Divers has in-site confined water and our dive sites are just a few minutes away. Our PADI Dive Instructors are patient and regularly work with students of all ages, from 10 years old to 80+ years young.

9. How long have you been in Dressel Divers?

I have been with Dressel Divers since November 2017.

10. What features and opportunities made you choose to work with this company in particular?

I was looking for a good place to train for my instructor course. Dressel offered me an internship as I did not have the finances to pay for one, and all the best-trained instructors that I had met while I was in Asia, the ones that could handle difficult situations and students had all trained with Dressel.

11. Which Dressel Divers dive center would you like to go next if the opportunity arises?

To be honest I absolutely love working in Cozumel.

12. What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to make a living with scuba diving?

Take your vitamins, work hard, and keep going.
